The family of murdered French film producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier will travel to west Cork later this month to highlight a campaign aimed at harmonising laws on victims rights across the European Union.
According to the French consul in Cork, Francoise Letellier, Marguerite and Georges Bouniol will attend a special memorial Mass for their daughter at St Patrick's Star of the Sea Church in Goleen on January 27th. During their visit, Mr and Mrs Bouniol will speak about the launch of a new campaign group, the Association for the Truth about the Murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier née Bouniol, set up by Ms Bouniol's brother, Jean Pierre Gazeau and her cousin, Francis Lefevre.
The family will stay at the dormer bungalow at Toormore where their daughter was murdered sometime in the early hours of December 23rd, 1996 and will lay a wreath at the small Celtic cross that marks the spot where her body was found near the entrance to the property.
This week, Mr Gazeau wrote to The Irish Times, saying that after 11 years the truth of what happened to his niece remains unknown. However, Supt Liam Horgan of Bantry Garda station said that the investigation into Ms Toscan du Plantier's killing was ongoing, with gardaí regularly reviewing the case.
