Bord Failte's grant-in-aid has been reduced by 2 per cent, to £26 million. But this is offset by a considerable increase - from £1 million to £6.9 million - in provision for tourism development works. A spokesman for the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Dr McDaid, said the extra money was being made available to support the "excellent" projects for which European Regional Development Funds were no longer available. There is a slight increase in the budget for CERT, which trains staff for the catering and tourism industries - it goes up to just under £3.5 million. Dr McDaid yesterday launched a major campaign by CERT and the tourist industry to deal with recruitment problems.
