An urgent review of plans for marketing Irish tourism abroad following the terrorist attacks in the US has been announced by Tourism Ireland, the new all-Ireland body for overseas tourism marketing from next year.
"As of now we are putting a window of five weeks on this impact review. At this stage we hope to have all the necessary information and feedback to enable us to put the necessary action plans in place for 2002," said Mr Paul O'Toole, chief executive, Tourism Ireland.
The review was welcomed by the Minister for Tourism, Dr McDaid, and the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation (ITIC). Its chairman, Mr Tony Kelly, said an estimated "£100 million will be lost as a result of the tragic events in the US".
The Minister said he would meet ITIC representatives soon "to review the work".
