There was a 12 per cent increase in the number of visitors to the State for the first seven months of the year, CSO figures have indicated.
The increased visitor numbers were spread across all major markets.
More than two and a quarter million visitors came from Britain in the period - an increase of almost 10 per cent on the same period last year.
Visitors from mainland Europe were up by almost 19 per cent, while visitor numbers from North America grew by 8 per cent. The number of people visiting the Republic from other markets climbed by 6.6 per cent.
Tourism Minister John O'Donoghue expressed said it was encouraging to see "Ireland's strong tourism performance this year is continuing".
The number of trips abroad made by residents of the Republic in July was 8.4 per cent higher at 778,100, and the seven-month figure was up 11.2 per cent at 3.95 million.
