Lindsay Jane Sedgwick's Trade Me A Dream, second in the Focus's series of lunchtime one-acts, is set in Northern Ireland, and opens with a dramatic flourish as two soldiers burst into a house occupied by a married couple and their young son; one kidnaps the husband, while the other stays to guard the wife and child.
As an opening gambit, it has possibilities in developing the relationship between the wife and her captor, a paradigm for the times. The plot's subsequent treatment, however, reaches heights of bewildering implausibility, with matching dialogue. Credulity is not merely strained, but shattered.
Director Brent Hearne and his cast - Elizabeth Cosgrave, Joe Campbell, Paul Roe, Jimmy Watson and Sean Tracey - address their task with absolute conviction; the only way to go.
