Motorists are being advised to avoid the Punchestown and Naas areas today as up to 60,000 music fans make their way to Punchestown for the Oxegen Music Festival which is sold out.

The festival campsite opened at noon today and ticket checkpoints are now in operation on all approach routes to Punchestown. Promoters MCD have warned that their will be no tickets on sale at the venue and non-ticket holders will not be allowed past the checkpoints.

Traffic is expected to be particularly heavy on the N7, M7 and N81 heading to the site, and ticket holders are being advised to allow plenty of time for their journeys. Headline acts appearing at Oxegen include The Darkness, The Cure and The Strokes.

Dublin Bus will operate a return bus service from Parnell Square to Punchestown every 20 minutes until 9 p.m. tonight.

Traffic on routes from Donegal and Armagh is expected to be heavy on Sunday, as the two counties face each other in the Ulster Football Final, which is being held in Croke Park for the first time. It is expected that up to 25,000 fans could travel to Dublin from Donegal alone.

Other big GAA games over the weekend include the Munster Football Final between Kerry and Limerick at Páirc na nGael, Limerick, on Sunday and the Dublin versus Longford football qualifier at Portlaoise on Saturday evening.

There will be some road closures and traffic restrictions for in Ballina over the weekend as the town hosts its annual festival.

Aer Rianta is advising passengers intending to use the long-term car parks at Dublin Airport that they should use the blue car park which can be accessed from the Ballymun exit of the M50.

Met Éireann is forecasting mixed weather for the weekend, with showers expected and top temperatures in the high teens.
