Heavy traffic was expected on all major roads today as commuters made their way out of cities to enjoy the Easter weekend.
Airports were busy with increased passenger numbers leaving the country, while ferries were also running at full capacity as many others visited from Britain.
Extra numbers of travellers were also expected on bus and rail routes. The AA said they expected traffic to build up on all major routes from around lunchtime.
Motorists were warned to expect tailbacks and delays on all main roads out of Dublin and the country's other main towns and cities.
Significant disruption will be caused on the local DART rail services in Dublin over the weekend due to ongoing works to upgrade the line.
DART services will only operate between Malahide and Connolly Station, while services south of Connolly Station will be suspended until Tuesday due to the engineering work.
Bus substitute services will be provided for mainline rail passengers on the Connolly to Gorey/Rosslare service to take them from Dublin to Greystones or Arklow, with delays of up to 40 minutes expected.
Normal services are expected to resume in the south of the city on Tuesday morning.
