The murders of lifelong Catholic and Protestant friends Damien Trainor and Philip Allen in Poyntzpass, Co Armagh, a year ago on Wednesday must continue to act as a spur for political progress and reconciliation, the North's Deputy First Minister, Mr Seamus Mallon, has said.

Mr Trainor (26) and Mr Allen (35) were murdered by loyalist gunmen in the Railway Bar in Poyntzpass on March 3rd last year. The murders aroused widespread condemnation and revulsion, both nationally and internationally.
