Train drivers who caused severe disruption to rail passengers this week will meet tomorrow whether to suspend further strike action after the Labour Court intervened in the strike.
A spokesman for the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union - which is conducting the strike for more than 100 recently amalgamated Irish Locomotive Drivers’ Association members - said the meeting will be held at 11.30 a.m. in Dublin.
The drivers are expected to accept the Labour Court’s offer of mediation and cancel further industrial action after the union’s Irish secretary, Mr Mick O’Reilly, welcomed the initiative and urged his members to accept it.
The prospect of suspending further strike action followed the intervention yesterday by the National Implementation Body - established to police the PPF - which split the union’s claims into two categories.
It then asked the Labour Court to investigate the procedures for dealing with individual disciplinary matters in Irish Rail.
The second category - inter-union relations and union representation of train drivers - will be mediated by the disputes committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
