Dublin's 146 traffic wardens will be transferred from the Department of Justice to Dublin Corporation on April 12th. The wardens have been resisting the transfer for some months, arguing that it will mean a deterioration in their working conditions. But yesterday they received formal notice from Assistant Garda Commissioner Patrick O'Toole that the transfer was going ahead.
A spokeswoman for the wardens, Ms Liz Daly of IMPACT, said afterwards that they would resist the transfer through their unions and the courts. Mr Paul Smyth, SIPTU branch secretary, said his union would take "whatever appropriate action is necessary to safeguard the interests of our members".
