US:Thomas Beatie, who was born a woman but lives as a man after hormone treatment, has given birth to a baby girl.
Mr Beatie (34), from Oregon in the US, legally became a man 10 years ago and had his breasts surgically removed, but kept his female reproductive organs.
The child was conceived through artificial insemination using donor sperm and Mr Beatie's own eggs.
Mr Beatie told People magazine: "The only thing different about me is that I can't breastfeed my baby but a lot of mothers don't."
He told the magazine the child was not delivered by Caesarean section, but gave no other details about the birth.
Mr Beatie stopped taking hormone injections after deciding to have a child two years ago.
He said he took the decision because his wife of five years Nancy (46) was unable to conceive because of a hysterectomy.
She recently told US chatshow host Oprah Winfrey their parental roles would be traditional. "He's going to be the father and I'm going to be the mother."
Meanwhile, a 70-year-old Indian woman has claimed the title of the world's oldest mother.
Omkari Panwar reportedly had twins - a boy and girl - weighing just 2lb each and delivered one month early by Caesarean section in a hospital in Muzaffarnagar.
Mrs Panwar, who has two adult daughters and five grandchildren, underwent IVF treatment in the hope of having a male heir to the family's smallholdings.
Her husband, Charan Singh Panwar (77), told local media he mortgaged his land and sold his buffaloes to pay for the treatment.
"At last we have a son and heir," he said.
The previous oldest mother was Adriana Iliescu, a Romanian who gave birth to a daughter at the age of 66 in 2005.
Britain's oldest mother is Patricia Rashbrook, from Lewes, East Sussex, who had a son at 63, in 2006. - (AP)
