The Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Desmond Connell, has called for legislation to promote accommodation for travellers.

In a speech to be delivered at a seminar today in Dublin, Dr Connell says that "culturally appropriate accommodation with a good quality of design and guarantees of maintenance to a high standard" is necessary to accommodate travellers successfully.

He also called for the co operation of the settled population and a change in deeply rooted attitudes towards the problem.
