Art works by members of the Traveller community will be on display in an exhibition opening today in Dublin.
The works are entries in the second All Ireland Traveller Art Competition, which is open to all members of the Traveller community in the 32 counties.
The exhibition will run until this day week. Paintings, drawings and photographic entries are on display in the Bank of Ireland Arts Centre in Foster Place.
Other works such as sculptures, ceramics and fabrics will be on show in the Civic Offices, Wood Quay.
Organisers are the National Association of Traveller Centres and the Navan Traveller Training Centre.
They stated that the competition promoted the positive work happening in the Traveller training centres and youth projects and supported and encouraged Travellers throughout the medium of art and creativity.
The exhibition also honours the memory of three recently deceased directors of training centres.
National association chief executive James O'Leary said: "The art competition has been a very successful initiative. It has opened up new avenues for Travellers around Ireland to explore their identity and provide an outlet for their artistic and creative skills."
Opening the exhibition yesterday, Minister of State Síle de Valera said the competition was starting to display all the hallmarks of becoming an annual event.
The competition will be judged by artists Robert Ballagh and Bernadette Burns and photographer Derek Spiers. The awards ceremony will take place in the Arts Centre next Thursday, when artist and lecturer Brian Maguire will the guest of honour.
