The pregnant wife of one of four Irish Travellers charged with slavery earlier this week, following a raid by 200 police in Bedfordshire on Sunday, was last night charged with two counts of conspiracy to hold people in servitude, and two further counts of requiring alleged victims to perform forced labour.
Josie Connors was detained in the raid but released on bail. However, she was then told to face questioning yesterday by detectives investigating allegations that dozens of homeless men were enslaved at the Greenacres site. Mrs Connors was charged, but will remain on bail until she appears in court.
