The trial of a woman accused of causing criminal damage to a US military aircraft at Shannon airport last January is to begin today.
The case involving Ms Mary Kelly (50), formerly of the Peace Camp in Shannon, will be heard before a jury at the Circuit Court in Kilrush, Co Clare.
She has been charged with the criminal damage of the US Navy 737 aircraft at Shannon Airport on January 29th last.
At an Ennis District Court sitting in April, Judge Joseph Mangan declined jurisdiction in Ms Kelly's case, having heard damage "in excess of €100,000" was caused to the aircraft.
It is understood that Ms Kelly, a member of the Irish Anti-War Movement, has asked former US attorney general Mr Ramsey Clarke and former UN chief weapons inspector Mr Scott Ritter to give evidence at her trial.
Mr Clarke, a former US ambassador to the United Nations who has spoken out against US policy, is set to give evidence on Wednesday. Mr Ritter, an outspoken critic of the Bush administration, will also give evidence.
Both men will later address public meetings - in Ennis on Wednesday and in Galway on Thursday.
