A murder trial has heard that a teenager was stabbed to death after being chased into a dead end at an apartment complex.
The Central Criminal Court was told yesterday that David Byrne (19) received nine stab wounds after being chased into the car park of Emmet Court in Inchicore, Dublin, on March 19th, 2011.
Marcus Kirwan (19), Cooley Road, Drimnagh, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Mr Byrne, who had lived at Davitt House, also in Drimnagh.
Denis Vaughan Buckley SC, prosecuting, opened the trial yesterday before Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan and a jury of seven men and five women.
He said that a number of youths set upon Mr Byrne near St John Bosco Youth Centre in Drimnagh at about 10.30pm that night.
Mr Vaughan Buckley said the court would hear evidence from resident Thomas Quinn, who would say he saw three or four people run on to Emmet Court shortly after that time.
Mr Quinn would tell the court that this young man ran over to an area of trees and bushes, he said.
“He saw another lad, who was chasing him. We say that was the accused, but that’s a matter for you,” Mr Vaughan Buckley added.
