The new structure for payment of legal fees to legal personnel hired by tribunals.
- Government will examine other avenues of investigation before deciding on a tribunal as the best way forward.
- Tighter terms of reference for tribunals
- Tribunal procedures will be streamlined
- From September 1st, the costs of all legal representation will be renumerated by reference to a set fee.
- The new payment structure will apply to current tribunals and inquiries from a date set by Government following consultation between the AG and tribunal chairpersons.
- The set fee will be based on the current salary of a High Court Judge for a senior counsel.
- Renumeration packages will be as follows: €213,098 or €989 per day for senior counsel. €142,065 or €646 per day for junior counsel. Solicitors will earn €176,000 per annum or €800 per daily appearance or €100 per hour for work undertaken other than appearing at the tribunal
- Other legal personnel will be paid rates determined by reference to the above rates.
- Daily rates will be paid where legal personnel work for less than a calender year.
