BONN - The leader of Germany's two million-strong Turkish community criticised Chancellor Helmut Kohl yesterday for reinforcing prejudices against Turks living in the country in comments he made on its citizenship law.
A Turkish leader, Mr Hakki Keskin, said he was amazed that Dr Kohl should take such a tough stand against proposals from within his coalition to allow the children of Turks born in Germany to have dual nationality.
Mr Keskin's comments came ahead of a parliamentary debate on Germany's citizenship law, which unlike that of other major Western states maintains the blood-line principle enshrined in an Imperial law dating back to 1913. - (Reuters)
