The National Union of Journalists last night expressed concern after a Crown Court judge in Derry ordered the BBC, UTV and ITN to hand over to police all unbroadcast television footage of disturbances in Derry during last August’s Apprentice Boys parade. Judge Piers Grant allowed the application, made on behalf of the PSNI. He said “the disturbances appeared to have been activated by members of the so-called Dissident IRA”.

The Irish secretary of the NUJ, Seamus Dooley, urged the media organisations to appeal against the ruling.
