Twelve people including eight separatist guerrillas have been killed in separatist violence in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.
Police said one civilian was killed and five others injured today when suspected separatist guerrillas staged a rocket attack on an Indian paramilitary camp in Udhampur, 232 kilometres (144 miles) southeast of Srinagar, the state's summer capital.
Late yesterday, six separatist guerrillas were killed in two separate gun battles with Indian security forces in the Poonch district, police said.
In the neighbouring district of Doda, Indian security forces shot dead two militants in another gun battle, police said.
Elsewhere, unidentified militants shot dead three civilians in separate shootouts in the region since late yesterday, police said.
Kashmir's main separatist alliance - the All Parties Hurriyat [Freedom] Conference, which bands 23 religious and political groups - turned down India's invitation to peace talks, saying it was a train going nowhere unless Pakistan was included.
New Delhi has ruled out resuming talks with its neighbour unless it stops sponsoring militancy in Kashmir - an accusation Pakistan denies.
