A 48-year-old man has died in a road crash at Ballyphelan, near Borris, Co Carlow today bringing to 12 the number of people killed since the weekend.
The Garda say three vehicles were involved in the crash which happened on the Borris to Bagnelstown road at 9 a.m.
The man has been named as Mr Peter James Moloney of Ballydavid, Co Waterford.
Elsewhere a 57-year-old male pedestrian who was injured in a road traffic incident in Co Meath on Sunday has died today.
In Monaghan this afternoon, three children died, and a woman and eight-year-old are critical condition after a car crash in near Swanscross.
Twelve people have died on Irish roads in the last four days.
Five people, including a father and daughter, died in two separate road crashes in Co Kildare on Saturday evening and a 17-year-old man was killed in a crash in Co Cork in the early hours of Sunday morning.
And a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car in Co Wicklow on Sunday evening.
Today’s fatal crashes bring the total number of those killed on the roads this year to 216.
