Twelve people died today when a bus plunged into a river in the eastern Indian state of Bihar, the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency reported.
The accident took place in Purnea district, about 315 kilometres (190 miles) from Bihar's provincial capital Patna, when the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle.
About 30 people swam to safety, Bihar's police chief R.R. Prasad was quoted by PTI as saying.
