Wales coach Steve Hansen has made two changes from the side which beat Italy earlier this month for Saturday's Lloyds TSB Six Nations Championship clash against England at Twickenham.

Bridgend centre Gareth Thomas returns to the Welsh midfield, winning his 57th cap in place of Saracens' Tom Shanklin - while Llanelli lock Chris Wyatt has ousted Newport forward Ian Gough.

Gough could even miss out on a bench role, given that he is currently struggling with a back problem.

Gareth Llewellyn, Wales' most-capped forward with 64 Test match appearances, is on stand-by to take over from Gough - having last sampled international rugby during World Cup 99 when Wales lost against Samoa.

Hansen must decide whether Shanklin or Cardiff's Rhys Williams, who has been nursing a hand injury, will wear the number 22 jersey.

Fly-half Stephen Jones, meanwhile, did not train this morning after experiencing a muscle spasm earlier. Former rugby league star Iestyn Harris would be an obvious deputy if Jones' condition does not improve.

Thomas, who has scored 26 Test tries, will give Wales' midfield added physical presence. His last international start came against world champions Australia four months ago.

But 42-times capped flanker Colin Charvis, another player recalled by Hansen, starts on the bench as cover for back-row trio Nathan Budgett, Martyn Williams and Scott Quinnell.

Captain Quinnell wins his 50th cap, leading Wales into battle at a ground where they have not triumphed since Adrian Hadley's two tries inspired an 11-3 success 14 years ago.
