A special court in Lurgan RUC station in Co Armagh on Saturday heard evidence arising out of the disturbance in Portadown on September 5th. Mr Alan John Mawhinney (26), an unemployed welder, of Festival Road, Portadown, was charged with throwing a petrolbomb and with riotous behaviour. He was remanded in custody to Lisburn Magistrate's Court, sitting at the Maze, on September 23rd.

Mr Thomas James Carr agher (17), unemployed, of Tavanagh Gardens, Portadown, was charged with riotous behaviour on two occasions. The court was told by an RUC constable that when arrested, charged and cautioned, Mr Carragher replied: "I apologise to the police and the court."

He was remanded on personal bail of £250 to Craigavon Magistrate's Court on September 18th and ordered to report daily to the RUC in Portadown, observe a 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. curfew, stay out of Portadown town centre and not enter licensed premises.
