TWO YOUNG men appeared before Drogheda District Court yesterday to face charges related to an incident at a wooded beauty spot in Co Louth last year.
Lukas Smalenas (19), The Square, Drogheda and Marius Baciulis (19), St Michael’s Terrace, Co Louth, are both charged with violent disorder on March 10th, 2009 at Townley Hall Woods, Townley Hall, Drogheda.
They are charged that, with other named people, they used or threatened to use unlawful violence that would cause a person to fear for his or others safety, an offence under section 15 of the Criminal Justice Public Order Act.
Det Garda Kieran Rohan said that when he charged Mr Baciulis with violent disorder he had said he was only trying to protect himself because somebody “with a golf club was coming at me.”
Mr Baciulis is also charged with causing criminal damage to a car.
Judge Flann Brennan was told that in both cases the matter would be dealt with at the higher Circuit Court and books of evidence will have to be prepared.
