Road traffic collisions involving a 76-year-old pedestrian and a 36-year-old Italian national, brings to 249 the number of fatalities on Irish roads this year.
A female pedestrian died when she was knocked down by a car at around 7.20pm on Saturday at thhe entrance to Greenwood Estate on the Togher Road, in Cork. The woman, Patricia Daly (76), from Tramore Road, Cork, was removed to Cork University Hospital.
In a separate incident, a 36-year-old woman from Italy died following a collision between the car in which she was a front seat passenger and a van at Curaheen, Tralee, Co Kerry, on Friday at around 2.20pm. She was removed to Kerry General Hospital where she died later.
The driver of the car, a 31-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Gardaí in Coolock, Dublin named the man who was fatally injured in a crash on the Malahide Road, Coolock on Thursday as Liam Robinson (35) from Newtown Drive, Malahide Road.
An investigation is continuing into the incident in which the 35-year-old motorcyclist collided with a car and died shortly after being identified as a suspect by gardaí in a squad car.
It is believed that the man, who was driving the motorcycle, and his pillion passenger, were involved in suspicious activity prior to the crash at around 3.45pm.
In Naas, gardaí have named the driver who died following a single-vehicle collision on the M7 at Newhall, Naas, Co Kildare, on August 5th as Kevin Greene, (32), from Dernacart, Geashill, Tullamore, Co Offaly.
