Two men have died following road traffic collisions in Co Kildare and Co Limerick this morning.
Gardaí at Leixlip Co Kildare are investigating the two-vehicle collision which occurred at Coolavacoose on the main road between Carbury and Edenderry on the R402 at approximately 6.45am.
The 40-year-old male driver of one of the vehicles was fatally injured. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were injured. It is understood their injuries are not serious.
The road was closed to allow a technical examination of the scene and diversions were put in place.
An appeal has been issued to the public for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact
gardaí at Leixlip 01- 666 7800, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
Less than two hours later two vehicles crashed at Barnagh, Newcastle West, Co Limerick at about 8.30am.
The male driver of one of the vehicles, aged in his mid 20s, was killed and the driver of the second car was injured, but not seriously.
The N21 was closed pending a forensic technical examination and diversions were put in place.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
