Two people have died in a house fire off the North Circular Road in Dublin.
A man in his 40s and a woman in her 20s died after the fire started at their flat in a house at Ellesmere Avenue in Cabra shortly after 10pm last night.
Gardaí were interviewing neighbours and appealing for witnesses to confirm the identity of the victims and establish the cause of the blaze, which was described by firefighters as small.
A Dublin Fire Brigade spokesman said: "The emergency call was received at 22.03. Four tenders, two ambulances and an advance paramedic team responded."
The spokesman said the couple were found on the ground floor of the flat.
"All fire service vehicles and personnel left the scene at 22.30 and the investigation was handed over to the Garda."
Garda forensic officers began a technical examination of the sealed-off scene near the North Circular Road this morning.
Postmortem examinations on the bodies are due to be carried out today.
