A TEENAGER and a man in his 20s were killed in two road crashes in Co Westmeath and Co Cork yesterday.
The teenager was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Co Westmeath yesterday afternoon.
The deceased man (19) was the driver and sole occupant of one of the vehicles. The incident took place on the N51 Athboy to Delvin road at about 3.20pm.
He was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
There were two people in the second vehicle. One of these was admitted to hospital with injuries described by gardaí as “not life-threatening”.
The road was closed last night pending the completion of an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators. Local diversions were in place.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Mullingar Garda station.
In Co Cork, a man in his 20s was killed in a two-car crash on the main Cork to Skibbereen Road outside Rosscarbery last night.
The crash happened about a mile west of Rosscarbery at about 8pm.
Three other people were injured in the incident. Two of them were taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where it is understood that one person is in a critical condition.
