Two men in their 20s were arrested and released without charge in relation to an attack on a Co Tipperary man in Limerick early on Monday morning. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardai hope to interview two more men about the incident, which took place at Mount Kenneth Place at 12.30 a.m. The injured man was named as Mr Martin Carroll (31), from Clonmel. His condition was described as stable in the MidWestern Regional Hospital.

Meanwhile, the funeral took place yesterday of a 45-year-old man who was found unconscious in a Limerick alley on Friday night. Gardai believe Mr Anthony Casey, of Griffith Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, was attacked and beaten after socialising in pubs in the city. They are interviewing pub customers and are following a number of lines of inquiry. Mr Casey was found in Tait's Alley at 10.30 p.m. on Friday.

The removal of the remains of Mr John O'Sullivan (24), of Creval Park, Moyross, Limerick, who died following a stabbing in Pineview Gardens early on Monday, takes place tonight. A man has been charged with his murder.
