Two French civilians were killed when they were ambushed in Iraq yesterday.
The men, employed by a US company, were travelling along a road when they were shot last night. A third French citizen was injured, said a spokesman for the French Foreign Ministry.
The killings occurred near the city of Fallujah, west of Baghdad, and are the first deaths of French citizens in Iraq since the US-led war there.
France strongly opposed the war and refused to participate in the military coalition that toppled Saddam Hussein.
