Gardaí in Cork have arrested a couple for questioning following the seizure of €20,000 worth of heroin on the outskirts of the city this morning.

Detectives from the Cork city divisional drugs squad stopped a car on the main Cork to Dublin Road near the Dunkettle interchange just before 1am. The drugs, which gardaí believe were for distribution in the Cork area, have an estimated value of €20,000.

A man and a woman, both in their 20s, were arrested and taken to Mayfield Garda station for questioning.

The two were arrested under drug trafficking legislation and can be detained for up to seven days before they have to be released or charged.
