Gardaí  have arrested a man and a woman following the discovery of €240,000 worth drugs when they stopped a searched a car on the South Link Road in Cork today.

The 40 year old man and his 31 year female companion, both from the Passage area of South Cork, were arrested at around 2.15pm under drugs trafficking legislation when gardaí discovered 20 kilos of cannabis grass in their car.

The couple were both brought to the Bridewell Garda Station for questioning about the find while the car was also seized and is being forensically examined by garda technical experts while the drugs were sent to Dublin for analysis.

The operation which was carried out by members of the Garda National Drugs Unit and the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit is one of the seizures in Cork this year and gardaí believe the drugs were destined for the local market.
