A RUC spokesman said the man was walking in Bedhams Lane, Ballinahinch at around midnight when he was approached by three men, who forced him to lie on the ground and then shot him in the right calf.

Early yesterday evening a 19-year-old man suffered a suspected broken leg, puncture wounds and brusing after he was beaten by six or seven masked men outside his home.

The man was taken from his house in Linkside Gardens, Strabane, Co Tyrone and beaten with hurleys and an iron bar.
