Two Jewish settlers were shot dead

this morning by Palestinian gunmen near the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

The settlers were shot dead in the area of Jamayin, a Palestinian village in a zone under Israeli security control. The army immediately imposed a curfew on the village, which is under Palestinian administrative control.

Earlier this morning, a Palestinian was shot dead by soldiers after entering a Jewish settlement of Itamar in the West Bank and stabbing a man in his home.

"The terrorist got into the settlement and the home of one of the residents, made his way up to the bedroom and set upon the couple with two knives," an Itamar spokesman Rabbi said.

An army spokesman said the husband was slightly wounded and that an army unit rushed to the scene and killed the Palestinian.

Last month at the settlement, a Palestinian shot dead five Israelis, including a mother and her three children.

Elsewhere, Israeli military radio said that security forces had arrested a suspected Palestinian "terrorist" overnight in a mainly Arab Israeli village northeast of Tel Aviv.

The man was detained in Kfar Kassem, a village close to the edge of the West Bank, during an alert over possible suicide bombers.
