Two motorists have died in separate road traffic collisions as gardaí repeat appeals for road users to use caution while driving.

A 17 year-old motorist died in the collision which happened at Annaghmore, Hollyfort at 8.30pm near Gorey. No other vehicle was involved in the the crash and there were no other passengers in the car.

Gardaí have called on anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them at Gorey on 053 9430690.

Gardaí are also investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Co Tipperary last night in which a man died.

The collision happened at 18.45 at Parkstown, Horse and Jockey, Thurles.  Fr.  Rodger Kinane (83) with an address at Toureen, Rossmore, Co. Tipperary died when the car he was driving was in collision with a truck

The deaths come after gardaí and the Road Safety Authority made fresh calls to all road users to exercise caution on the roads over the weekend, which is typically one of the busiest times on our roads.

Motorists are asked to drive at a speed appropriate to the conditions and environment, wear seatbelts, ensure their vehicles are in good working order, and not to drink and drive.

Vulnerable road users including pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists have also been urged to make sure they can be seen, particularly as the clocks go back tonight.
