TWO MEN were charged yesterday with the murder of Dublin teenager Daniel McAnaspie, who died while in State care last year.

The 17-year-old went missing from his accommodation on February 25th, 2010, and his body was found in farmland in Rathfeigh, Co Meath, on the following May 13th.

Trevor Noone (23) and Richard Dekker (25), both from Whitestown Avenue, Mulhuddart, in Dublin, were brought before Blanchardstown District Court yesterday morning.

Dressed in tracksuits, the pair were charged with the murder of Mr McAnaspie at Tolka Valley Park, in Blanchardstown, on February 26th, 2010. Friends and relatives of the teenager were present for the brief hearing.

Det Garda Patrick McDonagh told Judge John Lindsay that Mr Noone was arrested yesterday morning and he replied “No” when the charge was put to him.

Det Sgt Dan Callaghan said he arrested Mr Dekker at his home on Thursday night and took him to Blanchardstown Garda station.

“He made no response to the charge after caution,” Det Sgt Callaghan said.

Judge Lindsay remanded both men in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court next Wednesday.

The pair, who were granted legal aid, remained silent during the brief proceedings and were not required to speak.

Mr Dekker was heckled as he was led from the courtroom.

On Thursday, the High Court ruled that Health Service Executive files could be released to Mr McAnaspie’s family.

His sister Cathriona McAnaspie said some of the HSE reports could explain how he was cared for before his death. She had sought access to reports written about the teenager by his guardian ad litem, who was appointed by a court when he first went into HSE care in 2005.
