Two men facing charges in connection with the hijacking of a lorry in Co Meath last week have been refused bail.

The lorry carrying 22 pallets of vodka worth €300,000 was hijacked near Dunshaughlin at about 11am on April 10th as it was being driven from Bailieborough to Dublin.

Simon Maxwell (40) and brother Thomas (42), with addresses in Co Westmeath, were charged last week under Section 17 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud) Act for handling stolen property.

Their application for bail was refused by Longford District Court this morning after Judge John Neilan said he had concerns about the source of a €30,000 surety being offered by a cousin of the two men.
