Two young men were remanded in custody by Judge Michael Reilly at separate special weekend sittings of Limerick District Court arising from the death of a man near the village of Ballinahinch, Co Tipperary, last Friday morning.
Mr William Roche (20) a native of St Mary's Park, Limerick, but with an address at Millstream, Killaloe, Co Clare, was charged at the court on Saturday night with the murder of Mr John Carroll (21) of Mullally Grove, Cappamore, Co Limerick, at Gurraun, Ballinahinch, Co Tipperary, on December 4th.
At a special sitting of the court yesterday morning, Mr Michael Sage (22) c/o Glenacre, Killaloe, was charged that at Clarisford Moys, Killaloe on December 4th last, he falsely imprisoned John Carroll, contrary to Section 15 of the Non-fatal Offences Against the Person Act (1997).
Sgt John Moloney, Roxboro Garda station, gave evidence of arresting the accused and said that when charged he made no reply.
Asked by Judge Reilly if there were to be any further charges, Supt Sean Corcoran, Killaloe, who with Det Insp Michael Barry, Ennis, is in charge of investigations, replied: "Not at the moment."
Both accused were remanded in custody until next Thursday.
Mr Carroll has been described by neighbours as a popular young man. His body was found on Friday morning last outside the village of Ballinahinch, Co Tipperary.
A native of Ballingarry, Co Tipperary, he was stated to have been fostered out since the age of 12, when his mother died, and had spent the last five years with Mrs Kathleen Quish and her husband, Martin, at their home at Mullally Grove, Cappamore.
Mrs Quish said: "He was a lovable young fellow - a keen disco dancer and although only 5ft 4 inches, was a wiry young footballer with the local team."
For the past two years he worked as an upholstery apprentice at the National Rehab Institute at Raheen, Limerick.
The remains will be brought to St Michael's Church, Cappamore, this evening.
