Two men were charged in court in Belfast yesterday with assaulting a golfer on Wednesday night with intent to rob him.
The golfer, who was playing with others at the Ormeau club in Belfast, was said to have been hit with a golf club on the knees and back, had to have hospital treatment and was using crutches.
The two accused who are unemployed and from the east of the city are Mr Ian Thompson (23) from Brenda Street and Mr Douglas Wilson (19) from Templemore Street. An RUC officer said that when arrested Mr Wilson made no reply to the charge and Mr Thompson said he was sorry.
Both men were remanded on bail of £250 each until July 5th on condition they stayed away from Ormeau Golf Club, observed a 12 hour curfew each night from 7 p.m.
