Two men were remanded in custody until January 20th at Nenagh District Court yesterday following violent incidents at a 21st birthday party in which two men were stabbed and another had his ear bitten.

The incidents happened in the Western Pass Bar, Ardcroney, Co Tipperary, in the early hours of last Monday morning.

Mr Paul Stapleton (30), from Upper Silver Street, Nenagh, Co Tipperary, was remanded on charges of assault causing harm to Mr Kevin Corrigan and Mr Paul Kennedy, from Ballingarry, Roscrea.

Mr Keith Daly (19), from St Joseph's Park, Nenagh, was remanded on charges of assault causing harm to Mr Declan Corrigan, from Ballingarry, and assault on Garda Brian Murphy.

Supt Jim Fitzgerald, who represented the Director of Public Prosecutions, said gardai went to a public house four miles outside Nenagh where three people had been injured.

Supt Fitzgerald told the court that Mr Stapleton had produced a knife and stabbed two people. Mr Daly did not use a knife. His method of attack was by biting the ear of another man.

An application was made to remand both men in custody by Supt Fitzgerald. Defence for both men made an application for bail.

The prosecution contested Mr Daly's right to bail. Garda Murphy said that, following the arrest, Mr Daly said he was a dead man and told him not to walk the streets. He described Garda Murphy's wife, house and car.

He said Mr Daly had said to him: "I know where you live."

Judge Tom O'Donnell refused bail to both men and remanded them in custody until January 20th, when they will appear before Limerick District Court.
