Two men were remanded in custody after appearing in court this morning in connection with the seizure of high-powered weaponry by Cork gardaí on Friday night.

Glen Geasley, 26, of Inishmore Drive, Ballincollig, Co Cork, and SeánCallinan, 21, of Pearse Park, Tullamore, Co Offaly were remanded in custody by Cork District Court.

Some 60 armed detectives were involved in the operation, which saw the seizure of weapons and cash at two Co Cork hotels. It is thought the weapons were destined for a Limerick drugs gang.

A sum believed to be over €40,000 - was seized in the operation.

A short time later, detectives recovered a large haul of weaponry in the car park of another hotel. Some two dozen weapons were recovered from a large van.

The weapons included high-powered pistols with silencers, a number of AK47 assault rifles and other assault rifles, some submachine guns, as well as two RPG 7 grenade launchers.
