The State's roads claimed another two victims early this morning in crashes in Counties Longford and Galway.
Mr Matthew Berry (20) died when the car he was travelling in hit a tree at Pollnahallia, Belclare, near Tuam, in Co Galway at around 3.30 a.m. Mr Berry was a member of the under-21 Galway football panel and had trained recently with the senior squad as a goalkeeper.
Two other men in the car were taken to University College Hospital, where there condition was described as stable.
In Longford, a man in his sixties died when his car collided with another car at 12.30 a.m. at Ballinalee. Gardaí in Granard are investigating.
Gardaí this morning named the victim of a crash in Ballycarney, Co Wexford, yesterday evening. Alice Kennedy (44) from Bunclody, Co Wexford, was the front-seat passenger of a car driven by her husband when the two-car crash happened at 5.45 p.m.
Helena Murphy (64) of Doonane Road, Crettyard, Co Laois was killed instantly in a crash between two cars at Keelogue, Killeshin, Co Laois, shortly after 4 p.m. yesterday afternoon. Ms Murphy was a front-seat passenger in one of the cars. A further five people were injured in the crash and were taken to St Luke's hospital in Kilkenny.
On Saturday night, Mr David George Quinn (60) and his sister Ms Margaret Quinn (59), both from Ashgrove, Markethill, Co Armagh, were killed in an accident at occurred in Ardchicken, Donegal town, at 10.30 p.m.
The two were killed instantly, while the third passenger, who was in the back seat of the car, is in a serious condition at Letterkenny General Hospital. The driver of the other vehicle involved, a jeep, suffered minor injuries.
So far this year, 194 people have been killed on the State's roads.
