GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING the murder of a Limerick man whose body was found in the river Shannon earlier this month were last night continuing to question a man and a woman arrested separately in the city yesterday.
Gardaí arrested a 27-year-old man in Limerick yesterday morning for questioning about the murder of Francie Green (48), whose body was found at Portrine, Co Clare, on February 5th last.
Mr Green was last seen near his home at Hartstonge in the city on November 28th. A major investigation was launched by gardaí following his disappearance.
Yesterday, the investigation team under Supt Frank O’Brien arrested the 27-year-old man under section four of the Criminal Justice Act and brought him to Henry Street Garda station for questioning. Later, detectives arrested a 31-year-old woman in Limerick under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act on suspicion of withholding information on Mr Green’s death. She was taken to the same station.
Gardaí were last night still questioning both about the disappearance and death of Mr Green, whom gardaí had previously indicated may have been abducted from his home.
Gardaí did not disclose findings of a postmortem on Mr Green’s body for operational reasons.
Prior to the discovery of Mr Green’s body, gardaí had arrested a 27-year-old man in Limerick in January on suspicion of falsely imprisoning Mr Green. He was questioned before being released without charge and a file was prepared for the DPP.
