Two-year-old dies after west Belfast fire

A two-year-old boy who had been rescued from a house fire in west Belfast yesterday morning died in hospital last night.

A two-year-old boy who had been rescued from a house fire in west Belfast yesterday morning died in hospital last night.

The toddler had been brought to safety by Belfast council workers who fought their way into the burning house at Fort Street in the Springfield Road area.

He was taken in a police Land Rover to the nearby Royal Victoria Hospital where medical staff fought to save his life.

The child's mother and three-year-old brother who were in the house at the time were released from hospital after treatment.

It is believed the fire started in an upstairs bedroom of the property.
