U2 have confirmed they will play a concert at Slane Castle, Co Meath, on August 25th. The one-day music festival will also include appearances by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, Kelis and JJ72. Tickets for the 80,000capacity concert go on sale at 7 a.m on Saturday, March 10th.
The show marks the 20th anniversary of U2's only previous appearance at Slane, when they supported Thin Lizzy in 1981. U2's world tour begins in Miami on March 24th and the Slane show will be their final date - and their only open-air show of the tour. "We've waited a long time to play Slane Castle again" says drummer Larry Mullen. "It's going to be a beautiful day."
The Slane show will be the band's first Irish appearance since the PopMart Lansdowne Road concerts in the summer of 1997.
To mark the announcement of the Slane concert, Network 2 will broadcast a special five-hour "U2" night this Saturday night.
Tickets for the show, which are limited to six per caller, can be booked by telephoning 1890-9251000 in the Republic and 0870-2434455 from Northern Ireland from March 10th.
