A former dustman who won a £9.7 million (€14.5 million) British National Lottery jackpot was today jailed for five months for various drugs offences after he breached a drugs testing and treatment order.

Michael Carroll (21), of Downham Market, Norfolk, was told by Swaffham Magistrates that he would serve a jail term because he failed to comply with the 12 months order.

Carroll escaped jail when he was sentenced in March after admitting that he had 19.7 grams of cocaine at his home with a street value of £1,500.

He also admitted possessing 20 grams of cannabis resin worth £70, nine grams of herbal cannabis worth £10, magic mushrooms worth £1 and allowing his home to be used for the smoking of cannabis.

The 12-month order was imposed on Carroll with the requirement that he turn up for testing twice a week.

The court heard that Carroll had only turned up for one of his testing sessions since he last appeared in court on June 1st.

Carroll's lawyer said the reason his client had failed to attend was because he had been the victim of an intimidation campaign.
