British airport baggage handlers have voted to go on strike.
Workers for ground handling group Aviance, which operates baggage handling and check-in operations at 17 British airports, voted 4-1 in favour to strike in protest at the firm's 2.5 per cent pay offer, the Transport and General Workers Union (T&G) said. No dates have been set.
The union, which has about 1,700 members working for Aviance, is holding more talks with the firm on Wednesday.
If no agreement is reached, the T&G workers could be joined by employees from the GMB and Amicus unions, who have also threatened action.
The T&G said any action would bring significant disruption at British airports, including Heathrow, Manchester, Stansted, Luton and Cardiff, and hit airlines for which Aviance provided ground services, such as Lufthansa, British Midland Airways, and Singapore Airlines.
