London - Britain provided Sierra Leone's exiled President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah with £340,000 last year to help return him to power, the British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, said yesterday.
Mr Blair told parliament in a written reply that the money was used to pay for the deposed leader's communications equipment, a seminar to restore his government and to enable his delegation to attend the Commonwealth meeting in Edinburgh last October.
Mr Kabbah was ousted by a coup in 1997 and was restored to power in March this year with the help of Nigerian-led ECOMOG forces.
