House prices in Britain fell for the second month running in October, according to HBOS Halifax house price survey today.
The Halifax survey showed house prices fell 0.5 per cent on the month after a 0.6 per cent decline in September, the first time house prices have fallen two months in a row since 2005.
The fall pushed the annual three-month rate of house price inflation down to 8.9 per cent, from 10.7, in September and pushed the average house price down to £197,248, HBOS said.
The decline contrasted with the 1.1 per cent rise reported by the rival Nationwide index.
